Whether it’s solving climate change, creating a robotics program to instill curiosity in STEM fields to third and fourth graders, constructing the world’s infrastructure of roads, bridges and waterways, or testing sustainable energy sources, the students in the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) are tackling global challenges and improving lives. They’re not just confronting problems, they’re creating award-winning solutions.

For example, the mechanical engineering student team earned first place in the 2017 E-Fest North America West Human Powered Vehicle Challenge. A team of civil engineers took second place overall at the American Society of Civil Engineers 2018 Regional Conference. Student teams from the manufacturing systems engineering and management program won the Grand Prize for three consecutive years at the Small Manufacturers’ Institute Manufacturing Challenge and Exposition. Our students are constantly rising to the challenges, and succeeding, because of the hands-on practice that is central to the college’s curriculum.

CECS students have access to the same technologies and methods used by industry, giving them the practical knowledge needed to advance ideas and contribute to societies. To keep pace with rapidly changing technologies, the college must continually upgrade and augment its equipment and laboratories. By modernizing existing labs, students gain more exposure to hands-on, project-based, experiential learning projects as well as increased opportunities to work directly with faculty, preparing them for productive careers.

Your gift allows students to rise to the forefront of their fields by supporting their access to high-quality equipment. Our students are poised to build solutions for the next century and beyond. With the right tools, they can begin today.
