CSUN has always embraced persons whose impairments create challenges in everyday life, while supporting students who want to prepare for careers that contribute to the lives of those with disabilities of special needs. The CSUN Language, Speech and Hearing Center (LSHC) does both.

The LSHC is a non-profit, university-based clinical facility on campus that has provided comprehensive diagnosis and therapeutic services to children and adults with communication disorders since 1960. Serving a culturally diverse population of all ages, starting with infants, the LSHC averages more than 12,000 patient visits every year through five diagnostic/evaluation clinics and 12 speech therapy clinics.

The LSHC also operates an Early Intervention Program (EIP), accepting client referrals from local regional centers. More recently, the LSHC began offering a two-part speech therapy program to help people with Parkinson's disease regain and maintain effective communication.

Baccalaureate and master’s level students who are working toward careers as professional speech/language or hearing specialists provide evaluation and/or therapy services. They work under the direct supervision of faculty supervisors who have professional certification and are licensed by the state of California. CSUN's Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences is an accredited training program by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Make a commitment to helping all people voice their love, feelings, opinions and emotions. Your gift to the LSHC provides CSUN students with specialized training in speech-language or audiology. More importantly, your gift transforms lives, allowing more people the ability to share their feelings and emotions with the ones they love.
