Since its founding in 1958, CSUN has rapidly grown into one of the largest universities in the country, educating nearly 40,000 undergraduates and graduates annually. The University Library has grown in size and prestige along with the campus. In order to ensure the continued quality of the library's collection, and to extend its cultural resources to the community, the Friends of the University Library was established. The Friends of the University Library is a special group of volunteers committed to supporting CSUN students, faculty and the community through enhanced and expanded resources. Each year, funding from this group supports new book acquisitions, state-of-the-art equipment purchases, student scholarships, sponsorship of the annual Special Collections and Archives exhibit and significant cultural events and programs.

The Friends of the Library also organizes fundraising events, selects the annual "San Fernando Valley Book of the Year Award," supports volunteer activities and encourages annual gifts and endowments.

As a member of the Friends of the Library, you are part of a community of book lovers, knowledge seekers and literary culture promoters. More importantly, you are committed to improving the community’s cultural resources as well as students' academic achievements.
