It’s often said that out of great tragedy comes hope. Such is the case with the Mitchell Family Counseling Clinic, established in 1994 after the Northridge earthquake, which produced a surge of children with post-traumatic stress disorder. Mitchell Family Counseling Clinic leverages its resources as part of the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling in the Michael D. Eisner College of Education to offer high-quality and low-cost counseling services to adults, children, couples and families in the Los Angeles region.

Graduate students in CSUN’s Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) master’s program provide about 2,000 cumulative counseling hours per year through the clinic under the supervision and training by faculty members. Community services include counseling for adults and families on various issues including anger, anxiety and stress management, depression, family separation and divorce, parent skills, parent education, art and play therapy for young people, and more.

Mitchell Family Counseling Clinic is just one example of CSUN’s significant impact on quality of life in the region. For families that may not otherwise afford vital counseling services, Mitchell Family Counseling Clinic is a beacon of hope. For graduate students, it’s their passion. Your gift fuels both hope and passion by providing payment relief for low-income families to utilize the services provided by this important resource.
