A Note From the Provost

Provost Komarraju

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for all your hard work and dedication throughout this academic year.  Your unwavering commitment to educating, mentoring, and supporting students is very impressive and has not gone unnoticed, and I am truly grateful for all you have done to make this academic year a success.

For me, the lifecycle of the university is bittersweet. As we approach Commencement, we say farewell to our graduates and wish them the best. Meanwhile, we look forward to guiding our continuing students in their academic pursuits and career preparations.  The next few months will usher in a time of growth, as we get ready to welcome new Matadors, eager to learn and grow.  It’s exciting, and I am inspired by your resilience and flexibility, as you have proven your willingness to adjust to a new normal in service to our students.  Your passion and dedication to CSUN and to our community is inspiring.

Thank you,

Meera

Dean Mechelle Best

Meet the Dean:

Mechelle Best, Ph.D., College of Health and Human Development

What brought you to CSUN and how long have you been Dean?
I started at CSUN in 2008 as an assistant professor and graduate coordinator in the Department of Recreation & Tourism Management. I’m CSUN’s newest dean. I became the Interim Dean in November 2021 and the permanent dean (as much as a dean can be permanent 😊) on May 1, 2023.

What do you like most about your position?
I work with wonderful staff and faculty who are driven to help our students succeed. At the same time, I get to help those staff and faculty work towards and achieve their professional goals.
