“The scholarships I received from CSUN helped my education immensely,” said Marcella Rose MA '19 (Physical Geography) and Alumni Association Graduate Scholar. “What it meant for me was, I didn’t have to work three jobs. I didn’t have to work 60 hours a week and only be on campus just for my one or two classes. It gave me the freedom to be Geography Club president, to start the drone lab, to teach these extra classes and to help my department wherever I could while also focusing much more on my education, and for me, that made all the difference.”

Nearly 90 percent of CSUN students are eligible for financial aid. However, even those who qualify for need-based financial aid may not have their needs met due to changes in eligibility. Scholarships are often a deciding factor for many students who dream of pursuing higher education. For them, scholarship support may be their only chance to achieve their academic goals.

“I was really upset that I didn’t know where I was going to go to college, because I literally couldn’t afford anything,” said Xochitl Hernandez '20 (Vocal Arts) and Alumni Association Legacy Scholar. “Getting the CSUN Alumni Scholarship really helped with paying for my tuition. I’m very proud to say that I go to California State University, Northridge; it turned out to be not just the place that shaped my legacy, but it has also been the place that raised me and is now setting me off into the real world.”

CSUN Alumni Association Scholarships are awarded in three categories: First Generation Scholarships to encourage students who are the first in their family to attend a four-year institution; Legacy Association Legacy Scholarships to deepen loyalty to the university for sons and daughters of alumni and Graduate Scholarships to recognize high-achieving CSUN students who continue to a CSUN credential or master’s program.
